Description
Jay'swalkers Interactive is a two-person indie game development studio based in The Netherlands, founded by Vincent Bonefaas and Laurens Bruins. We’re passionate about creating unique, visually striking, and emotionally engaging games that challenge both players and ourselves.
Our primary focus is Kick & Fennick — a platform adventure released for the PlayStation Vita in February 2015. We’ve also developed Blue Marble, an atmospheric VR demo for the highly anticipated Oculus Rift headset. Between projects, we take on occasional freelance work to keep our creative energy flowing — and to afford the occasional sandwich.
History
Vincent and Laurens first met around seven years ago while working at Coded Illusions in Rotterdam. Fresh out of school and full of ambition, they both joined the development of an ambitious PC action game titled Haven. It was an exciting time — the arrival of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 pushed expectations sky-high. However, as a small and relatively inexperienced team, the project eventually became too large to handle and was ultimately canceled.
Despite the setback, the experience proved invaluable. Vincent grew into the role of Lead Animator, while Laurens transitioned from Lead Environment Artist to Game Designer. Together they began developing smaller, more manageable concepts — until financial challenges led to the closure of Coded Illusions.
Soon after, a core group — including Vincent and Laurens — joined Playlogic Game Factory, another ambitious studio focused on large console productions. They worked tirelessly: Vincent as an animator and Laurens as lead level designer. Although their dedication never wavered, the project received lukewarm reviews upon release, sales underperformed, and Playlogic eventually filed for bankruptcy.
Exhausted but determined, Vincent decided to take the leap and start his own independent game studio. Laurens, initially hesitant, soon followed after realizing that the best way forward was to build something they could truly call their own. And so, Jay'swalkers Interactive was born — a studio driven by passion, creativity, and the freedom to make games the way they were meant to be made.
